May 13 is a Special Day
for Many Reasons

May 13, 2001, marked the first anniversary of the beatification of Jacinta and Francisco Marto, two of the young shepherds who witnessed the six Fatima apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima. It was in 1917, when Our Lady told the three children the Secret. The third part of that Secret is not yet fully revealed even though we were promised its disclosure by 1960 at the latest.

On May 13, 1981, there was an attempt made on the Pope's life. And once again Our Lady's presence was felt: “I myself was able to experience Her protection on May 13,” the Pope stated after his thanksgiving Mass on May 13, 2001, the 20th anniversary of his being seriously wounded.

The Vatican suggested one year earlier, on May 13, 2000, that this assassination attempt was part of the Third Secret of Fatima and tried to convince the Catholic faithful that Pope John Paul II was the “bishop dressed in white” who was “killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him.” This version of the Third Secret has left doubts in the minds of many Fatima experts and The Fatima Crusader, issue 64, explains why in detail.

Thirty-four new priests, from four seminaries, were ordained by Pope John Paul II on May 13, 2001. Most of these priests will be assigned to Roman parishes “to guide the steps of the Christian people with generous dedication ...” the Pope said.

In a reference to the vocational crisis, the Pope stated: “It is about increasingly inspiring and cultivating a ‘vocational mentality’ ... characterized by listening, discernment and a generous response to God Who calls.”
