Re: The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Attacks Against Our Lady

J.M.J.

“
There never was, and never will be, an offering on the part of a pure creature greater or more perfect than that which Mary made to God when, at the age of three years, She presented Herself in the temple to offer Him, ... Her entire self, consecrating Herself as a perpetual victim in His honor.”

(Saint Alphonsus de Liguori, The Glories of Mary, p. 337)

October 2011
Month of the Holy Rosary

Dear Friend of Our Lady,

Many are aware of the fourth Joyful Mystery, the Presentation of the Child Jesus in the temple by Our Lady. As part of the Holy Rosary we meditate on this event in the lives of the Holy Family.

But how many meditate or even think about the Presentation of the Holy Virgin, the Child Mary, in the temple?

Here is some of what one of the great Doctors of the Church, Saint Alphonsus de Liguori, wrote relaying what many of the saints — such as Saint Germanus, Saint Epiphanius, Saint Gregory of Nyssa — said about the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple:

  • The parents of the Blessed Virgin, Joachim and Anne, made a vow that if God would give them a child, they would consecrate their child to God.
  • The Blessed Virgin, having been sanctified in the womb of Her mother at the instant of Her Immaculate Conception, received the perfect use of reason at that moment.
  • Therefore, at the age of three the Immaculate Child, understanding the vow Her parents had made, requested that Her parents take Her to the temple. The Child Mary “desired to offer and solemnly to consecrate Herself to God, by presenting Herself in the temple.”
  • “... of Her own accord, She requested Her parents with earnestness to take Her there, that they might thus accomplish their promise.”
  • Saint Alphonsus instructs us on the consideration that should be given of the generous sacrifice Joachim and Anne made offering their most precious treasure, the one dearest to their heart, to God.
  • The journey from Nazareth to Jerusalem was eighty miles.

“When the holy company had reached the temple the fair Child turned to Her parents, and on Her knees kissed their hands and asked their blessing; and then, without again turning back, She ascended the fifteen steps of the temple ... and presented Herself to the priest, Saint Zachary.

“Having done this, She bade farewell to the world, and renouncing all the pleasures that it promises ... She offered and consecrated Herself to Her Creator.”

During Her years in the temple the Blessed Virgin “offered Herself entirely to God, without the least reserve, by consecrating to Him all Her faculties and all Her senses, Her whole mind and Her whole heart, Her whole soul and Her whole body...

“In order to please God more, She made the vow of Virginity, a new vow, unusual at that time, and regarded by the Jews rather as a disgrace.

“But if Mary was the first to make such a vow, She was not the only one to do so...” Just as David had foretold in the Book of Psalms, “After Her shall Virgins be brought to the King...”, many have since followed Her example.

The enclosed prayer card, honoring the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the temple, depicts the image of the Child Mary leaving Her parents, Saint Anne and Saint Joachim, and ascending the steps of the temple.

On the back of the card is the Hail Mary and the prayer (i.e. the Collect) from the Mass for the Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin, which is November 21.

We are sending it to you now hoping you will have sufficient time to request more copies to give to others before Our Lady’s Feast day.

Attacks Against Our Lady

As you know, part of the Secret of Fatima that has been revealed is the desire of God to establish in the world devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

You have likely read or heard about movies, television shows, “artwork”, etc. that blaspheme our Holy Mother.

There are also many non-Catholics, mainly Protestants, who speak vehemently against Our Lady.

They do not understand how much She is loved by God. And they certainly do not understand how much we all owe Her.

These two things, how much Our Lord loves Our Lady and how much we owe Her, explain in part why Our Lord desires that the devotion to His Mother’s Immaculate Heart be propagated and lived and why He wants Reparation to Her Immaculate Heart.

Here is a story recently told about the vehemence expressed against Our Lady:

One Catholic man related that not too long ago, about forty people from his parish, including the parish priest, had gone to a planned protest against the impending new law supporting homosexual “marriage”.

They went in procession to the location with a Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima. The man said that when they arrived at the location of the protest, there was already on site a large group of non-Catholics.

The non-Catholics were protesting the diabolical proposal of homosexual “marriage”...

... until they saw the Statue of Our Lady.

    And guess what happened?

Believe it or not, instead of welcoming the Catholics which increased the number of protesters and could have made a stronger presence in their righteous protest against homosexual “marriage”, the non-Catholics re-focused their energy away from the real diabolical cause...

And directed their hatred toward Our Lady, Her image and those carrying Her Sacred Image!

This is diabolical! The devil hates Our Lady and attacks viciously those who are devoted to Her.

He succeeded centuries ago in sowing this horrible error in the hearts of many of the world’s heretics, that is, fallen away Catholics who were the ancestors of today’s Protestants.

And today’s Protestants have inherited that error, that hatred, from their heretical ancestry. If the devil had not successfully attacked this devotion to Our Lady, Protestants would have found their way back to the One True Faith from which their ancestry sprang.

The viciousness of those displaying such hatred, or at the very least antagonism, toward Our Lady, gives us one very good reason why non-Catholics cannot be saved unless they convert.

One cannot be an enemy of the Mother of God and expect to be saved. It will not happen. Our Lord will not take kindly to anyone who treats His Mother in a disrespectful, hateful or blasphemous manner.

Simply put, an enemy of Our Lady is an enemy of Our Lord. And Our Lord made it clear in the Gospel, “he who is not with Me is against Me.”

This contempt for Our Lady has to some degree seeped into the minds and hearts of some Catholics, even some priests today. It is partly because some of the errors of Protestantism have crept into their people’s minds.

As devotees of Our Lady and Her Fatima Message we must do all we can to heed God’s Will in spreading devotion to Her and promoting reparation to Her Immaculate Heart.

We hope the enclosed prayer card will help you do that.
