Sister Lucys
Statements to the Papal Nuncio (1982-1983)
On March 21, 1982, before
Pope John Paul II made his May 13, 1982 consecration of the world, the Holy
Father sent Archbishop Sante Portalupi, the Papal Nuncio to Portugal, to speak
to Sister Lucy in her Carmelite convent. The Nuncio was accompanied by Bishop
Alberto Cosme do Amaral of Leiria (the diocese in which Fatima is located) and
Dr. Francisco de Lacerda.
Archbishop Portalupi asked
Sister Lucy specifically about the Consecration of Russia. Sister Lucy
explained that the Pope must choose a date upon which His Holiness and all the
bishops of the world make, each in his own cathedral and at the same time as
the Pope, a solemn and public ceremony of Reparation and Consecration of Russia
to the Most Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary.
On March 19, 1983, a second
visit took place between Sister Lucy and Archbishop Portalupi. Sister Lucy had
prepared a text for the occasion, which was officially read. Sister Lucy said
that the consecration as requested by Our Lady of Fatima had not been done the
previous May 13, because:
- Russia had not been the clear object of the consecration, and
- Each bishop had not participated in a public and solemn ceremony in
his own cathedral.
Sister Lucys prepared
text concluded with this line: "The Consecration of Russia has not been done
as Our Lady requested. I was not able to make this statement (before)
because I did not have the permission of the Holy See."1 Sister Lucy
is not permitted to speak openly without the permission of either the Holy
Father or Cardinal Ratzinger. The interviews that took place between Sister
Lucy and the Papal Nuncio were sanctioned by the Pope, and therefore are
official. They prove, regardless of any subsequent attempt to distort,
re-interpret or invent Sister Lucys words, that there is one precise way
in which the Consecration of Russia can be fulfilled, and that this
Consecration has not yet been accomplished.
