A Pilgrimage to
Fatima
The Capelinha
Our Lady told the three child seers that She wished a chapel to be
built in Her honor on the site where She had appeared. On August 6, 1918, on
the feast of the Transfiguration, construction of the chapel began. On the
night of March 6, 1922, the chapel was dynamited by enemies of the Catholic
Faith, but it was almost immediately rebuilt.

A view of the Capelinha as it is today. A stone
column under the shelter marks the place where stood the holm oak tree above
which Our Lady appeared; this was destroyed by people taking pieces from it as
relics. |

"Jesus wishes to make use of
you to make Me known and loved. He wants to establish devotion in the world to
My Immaculate Heart. To whoever embraces this devotion, I promise salvation;
these souls shall be as dear to God as flowers placed by Me to adorn His
throne."
