For many in the Western media, the Sochi Olympics became an occasion to revile Russia, and Vladimir Putin in particular, for passing a law that prohibited exposing children to homosexual propaganda.
In the morally inverted mindset that prevails in the European Union, the United States and most everywhere else in the Western world, this attempt to prevent enlisting children in the crusade for social approval of homosexual acts was regarded as a moral obscenity. Russia was declared a bastion of homophobia and Putin a bigoted hatemonger.
President Barack Obama expressed his disapproval and underscored it by naming prominent homosexuals to his Olympic delegation. (See: “Obama names openly gay athletes to Sochi Olympic delegation”.) There were even rumblings about boycotting the Olympics. The discussion may never have been serious, but it was symbolic and required, for most every Western nation has now either approved, or is on its way to approving, gay “marriage,” gay adoption of children, gay propaganda in school curricula and in the media, and these governments feel it incumbent upon them to denounce anyone who would question the morality of homosexual acts. Russia appears to be the odd man out in the polity of nations.
Why should this be so? Does it not appear ironic that the nation that made atheism state policy and incorporated its teaching into school curricula should now be standing practically alone on the world stage to defend the innocence of children from the corruption of homosexual propaganda? And what insanity has taken hold of the former nations of Christendom that they have become the standard bearers for one of the four sins that cries out to Heaven for vengeance? The phrase “diabolical disorientation” used by Sister Lucy of Fatima appears appropriate. (See: “Sister Lucy on ‘Diabolical Disorientation’”.)
While President Putin appears to have assumed the mantle of defender of the Orthodox faith, there are many who doubt his sincerity. Certainly, given his history, there is cause for doubt. But he is willing to suffer real consequences for his moral stand, something that no Western leader is willing to do. And when it comes to the cynical use of feigned belief in God and His laws, Western leaders are foremost among its practitioners.
Obama may be required to profess his supposed Christianity from time to time and attend the occasional prayer breakfast, but this is all just a matter of decorum and a way of deflecting criticism for the practical atheism and even anti-Christian policies of his administration. Can anyone forget that the delegates that nominated Obama at the last Democratic Party Convention actually booed the motion to put the mention of God back into their Party Platform? (See: “Democrats Boo Vote to Restore ‘God’”.)
So it seems that West and East are going in separate directions, with the U.S., Europe and their allies jettisoning the remnants of traditional morality, while Russia is reconstituting its society on its historic Christian values. What could this mean?
Of course, such a dramatic reversal of Russia’s trajectory after almost a century of communism may take a while to accomplish; and change, at this stage, may be incipient and rather superficial. Time will tell. But we know this: Russia is crucial in the plan of salvation history. (See: “Following Our Lady’s Path to Her Triumph”.)
It may be good to remember, along with the Message of Fatima, the prophecies of Blessed Elena Aiello, the stigmatist who died in 1961 and was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on September 14, 2011. (See: “Can This Woman Tell Us What’s Really Going On With Russia?”.) Blessed Elena received messages from Our Lord on Good Fridays in the 1950s and until her death, many of which concerned a terrible war that was soon to come. Blessed Elena was told:
“‘Russia will march upon all the nations of Europe, particularly Italy, and will raise her flag over the dome of St Peter’s. Italy will be severely tried by a great revolution, and Rome will be purified in blood for its many sins, especially those of impurity! The flock is about to be dispersed and the Pope must suffer greatly.”
NATO can turn its back on Ukraine, which is not a member state, but what will it do if Russia reclaims the Baltic nations, which are? Will the West commit itself to war with Russia over Lithuania or Latvia or Estonia? It seems unlikely. What about Moldova or Poland? Where will the line be drawn, and how will this game of chicken end? (See: “NATO Commander Warns of Putin Invasion Threat”.)
Our Lady told us through Sister Lucy that Russia was to be Heaven’s instrument in this chapter of salvation history we are living through, and world peace can only be obtained when Russia is converted. Failing that conversion, which is dependent upon the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, as specified by Our Lady of Fatima, the world will face unthinkable chastisements. (See: The Fatima Crusader, Issue #104.)
We know that in the end, the Pope and the bishops will consecrate Russia and she will be converted. We do not know under what conditions this consecration will take place. Will the Russian flag be flying over the Vatican when it happens? Will the vision of a soon-to-be-assassinated Pope climbing a hill in a ruined city full of corpses, as depicted in the published part of the Third Secret, come to be realized first?
As we ponder these questions, let’s us remember that our only hope is in the truth. (See: “We Must Love the Truth”.) And that truth can only be found in the words of Our Lady of Fatima, under Whose mantle we must gather as the shadow of war looms ever larger over our troubled world.

A Poor Understanding — In light of the vow of poverty required of professed religious and that the laity, whose vocation is marriage and family, are counseled to be content with the basic necessities as a safeguard to their greater spiritual good, there is something unsettling about the Church’s present overarching concern that poverty should be regarded as an injustice to be corrected by a more equitable and socially engineered distribution of goods.
We Must Love the Truth — St. Paul tells us that a love of the truth is foundational, as a necessary condition, to the spiritual life. The seduction of error and sin, he says, gets all its power over souls from this one cause, that they do not have a love of the truth.
