Saint Ignatius of Loyola had been a brave soldier in the Spanish military. One day (in 1516 A.D.) he was badly wounded in battle. When he was getting well, he read the lives of the Saints. “What they did, I can do!”, he thought. And he then became a brave soldier of Christ. So he established a new Society of Priests and Brothers. He called it the Society of Jesus.
When St. Alphonsus entered the priesthood, he devoted himself to the most neglected souls; and to carry on this work he later founded the missionary Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer. At the age of 66, he became Bishop of St. Agatha, and undertook the reform of his diocese with the zeal of a saint. He made a vow never to lose time, and, though his life was spent in prayer and work, he composed a vast number of books. They were filled with such science, unction, and wisdom that he has been declared one of the Doctors of the Church.June 2008 Letter to Volunteers
In this letter, Volunteer Department Director, Joanna Swords, speaks about the visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Her cousin Elizabeth as well as the newest Issue (#88) of The Fatima Crusader.
July 2 was the Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Her cousin Elizabeth. This is a most significant event in the life of Our Lord, Our Lady, Her cousins Zachary and Elizabeth, and especially for St. John the Baptist. The degree of significance is underlined by the fact that of all recorded biblical events it is one of the 15 important enough to have been rendered a place in the mysteries of the Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin — specifically, the second Joyful Mystery.
If you have not yet had a chance to read Issue #88 of The Fatima Crusader, we encourage you to do so as soon as possible. It gives an overview of The Only Way to World Peace conference which was held in Chennai, India earlier this year, with a selection of pictures taken and excerpts from some of the talks given. It was a very moving event which continues to produce great fruit.
We at the Fatima Center acknowledge that the Message of Fatima given to us by Our Blessed Mother, was truly intended for all children of God, whatever nationality they may be. In order to serve Our Lady in spreading devotion to Her Message, we offer the following translations. The ecclesiastical authorities remained reserved, as is the prudent practice of the Church in such matters, during the five years that followed the apparitions at Fatima in 1917. Yet despite this silence, the crowds coming on pilgrimage to the Cova da Iria remained steady. Two years after the apparition, Dom Jose Alves Correia da Silva, the Bishop of the Diocese of Leiria-Fatima, appointed a commission to study the case and began the official canonical inquiry. In the meantime the bishops of Portugal and all her islands and colonies were making their own pilgrimages to the site visited by Our Lady. Finally, in October of 1930, Bishop da Silva announced the results of the inquiry in a pastoral letter on the apparitions.“Las Consagraciones de Portugal (1931, 1938) y sus frutos”, [Spanish, “The Consecrations of Portugal (1931, 1938) and Their Benefits”]
When the Pope, along with all of the world’s bishops, consecrates Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, what will we see? What will the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary look like? Many people are not aware that Our Lady already gave the world a glimpse, a prelude, of what the Triumph of Her Immaculate Heart will be like. She did this in Portugal after the Portuguese bishops consecrated that nation – by name – to the Immaculate Heart, on May 13, 1931. It seems that Our Lady used Portugal to demonstrate on a national level what She will do worldwide when the Pope, in union with the world’s bishops, consecrates Russia to Her Immaculate Heart. Perhaps Our Lady also gave us this preview so that an insipid pan-religious "civilization of love" could never masquerade successfully as the Triumph of Heaven’s Queen.“Portugal salvada por el Rosario (1974 – 1975)”, [Spanish, “Portugal Saved by the Rosary (1974-1975)”]
There is yet another example of Portugal being especially blessed with the protection of Our Lady, this time because the laity united in petition to Her through the weapon of the Rosary. On April 25, 1974 the Communists came to power in Portugal. The same night, in Fatima a small group of devotees of Our Lady spent the night in prayer before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. They sought Divine Guidance for deliverance from the great evil that had befallen their country. They concluded the following morning that like Austria, which was freed from Communism in 1955 by a Rosary Campaign – in which millions of Rosaries were prayed for that country – Portugal should turn to Our Lady’s Rosary for email@example.com e-mail
